The chemistry supplier's "store"

This afternoon I went to the chemistry supplier vendor with another faculty. It was a typical Bengali store, in that it was tiny, hot, cramped and full of stuff. It wasn't a place where we could go and pick things off of shelves. We placed the order a couple weeks back and people have been haggling over prices since then. Then today we went to check a few specifications for some of the more involved glassware and some of the items with which our price hagglers disagreed over.
To me, most of the prices were very low compared to what you would pay in the US, so we'll see if it's high quality stuff or as soon as it's heated up it will break.....
There were some pieces of equipment I wanted to see to make sure it was what I was asking for, so we would ask for a sample and the minions of workers would go into the depths of back of the building and come back with what we they had. Then more discussions would ensue....
Since the lab space (which is housed in the 'new building') isn't finished yet, we will be getting all the stuff delivered early next week and then we'll really see what we have. I think it will be a HUGE pile of boxes because it's supplying an entire chemistry and biology lab from scratch. There were two pages of just glassware (and we need 30-50 of each) and another two pages of chemicals. Some of the larger equipment we ordered from other vendors outside of Chittagong and that is also supposed to arrive very soon. Then the job of unpacking it all will have to happen! Things "seem" to be coming together.....I saw the head engineer in the elevator today though and he said things were not going well with the new building, so we'll see when we actually start to teach and if we'll have to teach in the hallways of the existing building~
