Some random photos

I haven't been posting as often lately, so I went back and looked for some photos I haven't posted yet. Here's a collection of some random images I like:
First, a couple flower photos--the first, a Dahlia and a bee. They grew a lot of nice flowers in the entryway to school when we had VIP visitors a couple months back....
And second, an okra flower from someone's vegetable garden--it's great climate for okra here and they eat a lot of it. I don't love eating okra, but I have had some pretty tasty versions since i've been here...

The next are two images of the masjid (mosque) nearby school. There are a LOT of mosques here and most of them are unassuming, plain buildings. They all have loudspeakers for the call to prayer--most evenings I can hear 4-5 simultaneous prayers and it has an odd discordant harmony that I enjoy in a way. This is the nicest looking mosque I've seen in Chittagong. The first image is of the dome and entryway. The second is how I like to view it--with the sky and palm trees surrounding it. In the evenings when the sun is going down, it has beautiful light behind it.

These next couple photos are from the local "beach". The Karnafuli river empties into the Bay of Bengal at the southern tip of Chittagong. There's a beach there and on a recent field trip, we stopped for a short time with some students.
The first is an image of the beach, the locals and the sunset:
The beach and water look nice from a distance, but due to the untreated sewage and garbage that flows down the numerous rivers to here and the numerous shipping barges that ply these waters, it's pretty disgusting. The students said last time they were here and went wading, they were itchy for hours....yuck! Here is a nice photo of a handful of my students illuminated by the setting sun:
This next one is a cute image of some street dogs I found sleeping on my walk to school one morning--they looked so cozy in the sun!

And finally, the mosquitos here have special behavioral properties...they're small, very quick, they don't make the same whining noise so you can't track them in the dark AND the same mosquito will bite you numerous times! See photo:

That's four. (4!) mosquito bites on my arm in a 10 minute time span--from the same mosquito. The weather is heating up a lot recently, which isn't very nice for general existence, but with the hot weather, the mosquitoes go elsewhere, so there is an upshot.
